"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." - Mohandas Gandhi
This is a series of diaries highlighting animal rescues around the world and noting and celebrating the work they do to help animals who have no voices but ours to speak for them. I have decided to make this a daily series because there are so many wonderful rescues out there who need human help and weekly just doesn't seem to be enough. I have long wanted to start a rescue but lack the resources or time available to do so right now so this is my attempt to do my part. I hope that these rescues will benefit from the kindness and benevolence of the community here at Daily Kos. They are amazing organizations and worthy of Kossack attention and care.
I am here, alive and all around you
I have no voice
In your trees, your air, your fields, your oceans, your world
I have no voice
I am a mother, a father, a protector, a soul
I have no voice
I can walk, crawl, sing, fear
I have no voice
You must be my voice

WHO ARE WE
DogsInDanger.com is an award winning website founded by two dog lovers. The website was launched in October 2007 with the goal of:
- Getting as many of these dogs adopted into loving homes as possible, before their time runs out; and
- Raising awareness of the number of dogs being killed in shelters.
The co-founders dedicated their respective skills and the shelters list the dogs.
The founders have many more ideas to implement, all aimed at eradicating the needless killing of those we call our best friends.

NATIONAL TRAGEDY
We are a nation of dog lovers. So why is it that millions of dogs are being killed in shelters that are expected to provide these animals with a second chance at life?
Shelters are the last line for millions of innocent dogs. Most people have no idea of the magnitude of this national tragedy. The sad reality is that millions of dogs are killed each year in shelters. For far too long we have been told that there is no other way.
REASON FOR HOPE
DogsInDanger.com believes in the power of compassion, and that Americans would do more to help and adopt shelter dogs, if only they knew how many dogs were being killed. We have chosen a path of technology as a means of connecting these scared, abandoned shelter dogs with the loving homes they deserve. As a nonprofit organization, we seek no other gain except for the happiness we see in the face of a dog as he faithfully walks out through the shelter doors.
It may be uncomfortable for some to see lists of names and photos of dogs scheduled to die, but the truth is uncomfortable. By making it personal, we believe more people will be compelled to help these dogs. Thus dogsindanger.com refuses to present a sanitized version of the truth. Our ultimate goal is to see a day where healthy and treatable animals are no longer killed by their most trusted friends.
Transport A Dog
DogsInDanger Transport is a tool that can be used to map the transport of any DogsInDanger dog from the shelter to anywhere in the U.S. Adopters, rescuers and volunteers can map trips to freedom.
Once registered, you can create a trip, or join in to help others transport their dogs.
To sign up or to log in (if already registered) click here
NOTE: DogsInDanger does not transport dogs. This is a trip mapping tool, with a database of drivers. It is not the intent of DogsInDanger to coordinate or arrange those providing these valuable services, but to provide the environment in which those involved can come together in a common place and arrange or schedule rescue trips. Adopters need to first seek approval from the shelter that has the dog. Currently the transport tool is limited to dogs listed on DogsInDanger.com. There is a Transport button on each dog's web page to start trip map creation. When a trip is created, the system automatically notifies drivers in the region of the route.

Breed
DogsInDanger.com lists dogs based on a dominant breed. Within that breed category, many of the dogs may be mixed breeds. When you click on a dog to see the full information about that dog you will see "mix" if the shelter staff/volunteer who posted the dog felt it was a mix. If you are specifically looking for a pure breed, please glance at all the pets in that breed category, since many pure breed dogs are mistaken for mixes in shelters.

GET INVOLVED
SHELTER VOLUNTEER
We need volunteers to add photos and descriptions of shelter dogs on death row to DogsInDanger to get them more adoption exposure in an effort to save lives. There are opportunities to help shelters across the country. It is not necessary to visit the shelter to do this work. It can be done from home. It requires basic computer skills, and a commitment of 10-15 hours a week. The listings on DogsInDanger are time sensitive and very emotional for people trying to help, so it is important to be able to monitor the assigned shelter listings daily to keep them up to date.
If this is something that you are willing and able to do, please provide your contact info, including full name, email, phone, city and state and whether you want a shelter specifically in your state or are open to any shelter needing help. Email info@dogsindanger.com.
