On Friday, Markos Moulitsas joined Chuck Todd on MTP Daily to weigh in on Beto O’Rourke’s candidacy, progressives, and the 2020 ticket. Moulitsas said that he welcomes the large number of candidates and thinks it will be beneficial: “If 15 Democrats want to run, talking about Democratic issues, one-upping each other on Democratic policy, I actually think that’s a good thing in the end.”
And with new Democratic candidates entering the race just about every week, looks like we’re going to be in for a real ride.
A short clip and the full segment are embedded after the jump.
Moulitsas also shared his thoughts on electing a progressive president:
Trump has got 90% of Republicans; the Democratic nominee is going to have 90% of Democrats. There’s not going to be a lot of voters that are really up for grabs, so the question is, who gets their voters to the polls? And Democrats have historically had a harder time doing that. If you can come up with a message that motivates young voters, and people of color, and single women to vote, that dramatically changes the equation. So, I think there is a hunger for a clear, unadulterated, unambiguous, progressive message, and anybody that sort of tries to mealy-mouth that is going to have trouble moving forward.
