The stuff I’ve ordered has been arriving. It should mostly be here by the end of the week. Ten packages, maybe eleven — depends on whether the two books I ordered separately from the same company come in one package or two.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

A competitor in a golf tournament in Florida lost her ball to an alligator. Not her fault, no penalty.
A site in Rome linked to Julius Caesar’s assassination will open to the public in a couple years.
And Lake Ontario has encased quite a few beach houses in ice.
A graveyard has been found in Delaware with a headstone for a black Civil War veteran. The neighbors said it was there, and it was where local black families buried their dead. They were right.
Well, this study certainly explains why the people I worked with at UCLA worked so well together. Mostly.
The people who lived in the high Arctic in ancient times did have thriving trade partnerships.
I think the Bezos divorce is having an effect.
A peculiar grave in Sicily. It dates from the mid 11th century, and the speculations are certainly interesting.
The FTC has filed charges for fake reviews on Amazon. Not against Amazon.
You’d think the idea of female warriors was challenging to some people’s masculinity.
A Republican state representative in Minnesota is calling for (specifically) Democrats who are for for gun control to be — well, I notice he doesn’t call for guns to be used in the violence.
And here is a really weird volcano.

The weather here in Portland hasn’t been as miserable as elsewhere, but school this past week began with two days of two-hour late starts and buses on snow routes, and Wednesday was a snow day. Can’t say I missed Chess Club. The snow melted away over Wednesday and Thursday was a normal schoolday. The forecast for Friday was snow, but it didn’t happen (in fact, it was sunny for most of the day). Elsewhere, my brothers and their wives live in Terrebonne — a couple of feet of snow, and power out for at least one of their households. Snowpack in the Cascades is higher than normal, which makes a nice change.
Some of my trackable packages are claiming weather delays. Considering one is coming from New Jersey and another from Chicago, I am willing to believe those. I’m not so sure about the one that didn’t claim weather delay till it arrived in Portland.
The silly calendar I ordered from Canada will get here when it gets here. I received notice that it was shipped on the 18th. My new pants should arrive before the end of the week. And the socks still aren’t on the way, though they were supposedly shipped.
I got one set of the new sheets I ordered, and changed my bed. One of the elderly sheet sets I’ve been talking about getting rid of was what I was sleeping in.

The spring crocuses are blooming. They’re coming up purple and yellow behind my apartment.
I have finally hemmed the last couple of pairs of pants that I bought — since the fashion is for shorter than I like at the present time, I bought them in Tall. I had to shorten them by 3 ½ inches to get them to the length I prefer. And the hem is wide enough that if they shrink in the wash (unlikely — I’ve worn them with my boots and washed both pairs already), I can let it out a bit.
This weekend is for laundry and decluttering. My new vacuum cleaner arrives tomorrow.

Yes, I’ve been paying attention to the news. I just don’t have anything to say about it that hasn’t been said by somebody else already.

Saw my buddy downbuilding yesterday. He is officially retiring at the end of this coming week. He also told me he would take me out for dinner for my birthday and where did I want to go — though he didn’t want to spend very much (hardly a surprise — when we met routinely with one of our classmates several years back, when it was my turn to choose where, he’d tell me to choose a cheap place and I’d always ask him my idea of cheap or his?). I told him it was hard to find bad Thai food in this town, so pick a place that fit his price range. My birthday is in mid-April, and I’m already scheduled to go out with the offspring on the 13th, which is the Saturday between my firstborn’s birthday and mine. I think I’m going to have a relatively busy week.
