Elijah Cummings published an Op-Ed in the Washington Post entitled Elijah Cummings: The White House hasn’t turned over a single piece of paper to my committee.
This looks to me like a clear shot across the bow of the White House. Comply or be subpoeaned left and right.
Josh Marshall is on vacation at Talking Points Memo and in the meantime, Jeet Heer of Twitter Fame and a Contributing Editor at the New Republic is filling in on the Editor’s Blog and Jeet appears to agree with me.
He has made two posts about the stonewalling that President Trump’s administration is engaging in since Jan 20. This post, specifically, explains that the White House has not sent one piece of paper or a single person to testify to any committee.
So what about us Democrats watching from the sidelines? What about the activist base and what we want?
We admittedly have some disagreements within the party about whether to impeach. But do we have any disagreements about whether to force these F&*^&ers to appear in front of our oversight committees? They can testify or take the fifth, but right now we are not forcing them to appear.
I sure hope we don’t have anyone in the party willing to compromise on subpoenas. I want to see some loud and clear demands from Presidential Candidates, house and senate leaders, pundits on the left and everyone here that all the papers and depositions and appearances that Cummings & Schiff & Nadler & Waters & many more are requesting are now REQUIRED!
By Subpoeana!!
I will stop complaining about Impeachment being off the table if Speaker Pelosi and the rest of the party get serious about forcing the administration to come before them and either sing or prove they are liars.
Part of the reason people want to impeach is that it would by definition force the public hearings we all so badly want. If the party can make that happen regardless, through subpoena, and without infighting about whether to play that kind of hardball, then fine.
But when will it happen? It is almost April. We are 8 Months from an election year. Time is running out to force the truth and reconciliation that we need.
Subpoena everyone now.
Or Impeach.
But anyone who won’t do either?
Why?
Just Why?
Edit: I made my last line a little less of a challenge. I just want to know why we wouldn’t support one or the other.
