The Republican Party’s line since Donald Trump ascended to power and showed them that they need not pretend anymore has been to let their lizard-people freak flag fly, then lie, and lie, and lie some more. When you are called a liar, tell the person presenting facts that they are the liar. But most importantly, do not forget to kiss the ring of Donald Trump, for he owns your Republican soul. Republican Rep. Mo Brooks, best known for losing the Republican primary for Alabama Senate to an alleged child molester, hit the House floor on Monday to tell the world all about fascism and Hitler and the Nazis. Rep. Brooks “blasted” the Democratic Party for a witch hunt and spreading what he called the “big lie,” a theory that was promoted and espoused and used by the Nazi party in Germany oh so many years ago. Here’s the quote that Rep. Brooks wanted to hang his hat on as his big gotcha moment—showing the Democratic Party for what it is … the Nazis.
Rep. Brooks: In that vein I quote from another socialist who mastered Big Lie propaganda to a maximum and deadly effect “that in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods.
It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation.”
Reminder: Brooks is the guy who used audio of the attempted murder of congressional representatives at a softball game in his political ad campaign.
He isn’t ashamed. He’s so proud of his stupid speech, he’s put it up on his YouTube channel. Hey, there’s legitimately a good chance Rep. Brooks thinks Hitler’s one of the “greats.”
