Health care is back just in time for 2020, and Democrats are feeling just fine about that. House Democrats are introducing legislation to make the Affordable Care Act stronger, more affordable, and available to more people, while the Trump administration is telling the courts to burn the whole law down to the ground. Trump, clearly feeling invincible Tuesday, made some big declarations.
He reiterated that in a lunch meeting with Republican senators Tuesday. "His real mission statement of the day was: take up a Republican health care package," said North Dakota Republican Sen. Kevin Cramer. Boy, Senate Republicans who have never been able to put forward a healthcare plan, and who know if they did that it would never pass in the Democratic House, must just be thrilled with the position Trump just put them in on health care.
Democrats sure are. "It's hard to figure out," said Connecticut Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy of Trump's decision to demand the court destroy Obamacare. "They literally are teeing this up as an issue for Democrats for the next year and a half. They're not even making a laughable attempt to save the most popular parts of the Affordable Care Act." Democratic Leader Sen. Chuck Schumer said Trump just put "a two-year anchor around the neck of every Republican."
And we're not going to let anyone forget it.
