This morning, Politico reported that Donald Trump is setting his eyes across the Potomac and on Virginia. Notwithstanding the severe beatings Republicans have suffered statewide over the past few election cycles, Trump believes that the recent scandals surrounding our Governor, Lt. Governor and Attorney General puts us in a weakened state.
He’s even sending Mike Pence here in 2019 to help Republicans win on the state and local level, setting the stage for Trump himself to show up at some point:
Trump is keenly interested in the push. Before Pence departed for the fundraiser on Wednesday, the president asked him to deliver a message to state Republicans.
“Tell them we think Virginia is in play and that I’m going to be there,” Trump told the vice president, according to one person familiar with the exchange.
This news comes after Confederate Corey Stewart announced he is going to be heading up a Pro-Trump PAC. It seems that no matter how many times we tell the Trump crowd that they have no business coming to Virginia, they don’t seem to get the message.
That’s where you come in, Kos readers.
This year, the future Virginia is on the ballot. We have State Senate, State Delegate, School Board, County Board races and so many others. If Trump wants to use us as a weather balloon on whether or not he can win re-election in 2020, let’s send him a loud and clear message that there’s no chance of that happening.
On April 9th, we have a Special Election for one of our two only Democrat-held county board seats in Prince William County. It’s vital that we hold that seat.
After that, it’ll be a dead sprint to the June 11th Primaries and the November 5th General Election. As of last night, Prince William County has a full slate of Democrats running for our County Board, the first time that’s happened in decades.
I’m running for the Occoquan District, which is the top flip for Democrats in our county. This is the very first seat Corey Stewart ever held in his public life, and we have a chance to show once again that we don’t stand for his brand of Trumpish, Confederate-sympathizing politics. To win, though, we need your help.
Soon enough, Trump and his allies will descend on Virginia, trying to divide us. He and his buddies think they can roll back all of the progress we’ve made, and turn us back into a red state.
Bring it, Trumpsters.
