I am here to promote this just published, incredibly astute, critical reflection on the Ilhan Omar controversy and its broader context and ramifications.
The author Paul Rosenberg discusses the history of strict “language policing” that has been imposed on any critic of Israeli policies toward the Palestinians; a standard of governance that is never applied to conservative politicians endorsing policies that many other nations consider to be major severe violations of human rights or flat out war crimes. Rosenberg goes on to note that the condemnation of Rep. Omar is even more egregious because she is being demonized for statements about Jews she actually did not make. As the author highlights, support for Israel has been thoroughly decoupled from Jewish identity for well over twenty years. The biggest faction of hard line supporters of Israel’s current policies (and its current corrupt political regime) is now Christian conservatives.
This thought provoking analysis is so excellent that I will not delay your attention to it further. Please read; it is worth your time.
