This is a series of diaries highlighting animal rescues around the world and noting and celebrating the work they do to help animals who have no voices but ours to speak for them. I have decided to make this a daily series because there are so many wonderful rescues out there who need human help and weekly just doesn't seem to be enough. I have long wanted to start a rescue but lack the resources or time available to do so right now so this is my attempt to do my part. I hope that these rescues will benefit from the kindness and benevolence of the community here at Daily Kos. They are amazing organizations and worthy of Kossack attention and care.
I am here, alive and all around you
I have no voice
In your trees, your air, your fields, your oceans, your world
I have no voice
I am a mother, a father, a protector, a soul
I have no voice
I can walk, crawl, sing, fear
I have no voice
You must be my voice

A Message from Oliver, the Pigs Animal Sanctuary Mascot
“It’s Oliver, your favorite cute and cuddly pig. Well…I might be a bit large to cuddle, but I’m real cute. Many of you know me as the Pigs Animal Sanctuary mascot.
I’m writing all of you because one day I had this idea to make supporting us even easier. It’s called the Piggy Bank Partner Program. I told the nice people who take care of us you will like it. I also told them that you will sign-up because we are so cute and because you care.
My goal is to get 500 of my people (YOU) to donate at least $15 or more a month to become a Piggy Bank Partner.
All members of Piggy Bank Partners will receive VIP updates from me, invites to tour the property with me as the guide, and inclusion in our 2019 Piggy Bank Partner reception to be held at the Sanctuary. This new program will help care for us, not-to-mention allow my caretakers to budget (whatever that means I just hear them say it a lot) for upcoming expenses.
I’m sure gonna miss this warm weather, but with your support we know these nice people can care for us regardless of the weather. Like most of my friends here we aren’t getting any younger, and that’s costly because we require more food, medical visits, and care in general. Please sign-up today so I can say to my caretakers…I told ya so (I like sayin’ that).”
The Animals Count on Your Support
PIGS Animal Sanctuary exists entirely because of the generosity and commitment of our donors. We do not buy or sell donor lists. Most of our donors have come to know us by visiting the Sanctuary or learning of our work from television or newspaper accounts.
It is the regular support of this small group of compassionate individuals that has sustained the Sanctuary and its animal residents for more than a decade.

Just because your New Year's resolution may be to eat better, doesn't mean you have to cut out all desserts-- especially when they are raw and feature ingredients on the healthier side like tofu and cacao. This recipe is from Rouxbe, the leader in online plant-based cooking classes. Check them out for more great recipes. All you need is a…

Often recipes come together based on what I have in the fridge or what’s on sale at the grocery store. I had a pack of Old Florida Soy Tempeh, organic Yukon Gold potatoes and a can of fire-roasted stewed tomatoes that was BOGO at Publix and the rest came together easily with my pantry staples. I made this in the…

This soup is great side dish or even a main on a cool fall evening. I love making a big batch of soup and eating it throughout the week-- and every time I do that, I notice that I have to notch the belt a little tighter at the end of the week. Soup is nutritious, comforting and filling! Ingredients…

As the heat gives way to cooler nights, I love to reintroduce soups and warm, comforting meals into my diet-- and one of my staples is chili. There are many variations, but this one is sure to please even the staunchest meat lover. As you read through the ingredient list, you may say, "really, chocolate in chili?" Yes, you read…

Once a year, my mom becomes a pusher of figs. She has so many that she is forced to give them to everyone: her neighbors, fellow church go-ers, the mailman, and of course, me. Not everyone likes figs right off the tree, myself included. Something about the mushy, mealy texture really turns me off. However, I LOVE fig jam and…

I grew up on Kraft Macaroni and Cheese in the 70's and as my palate became slightly more sophisticated, I started eating pasta with Parmigiano-Reggiano, baked ziti, or ravioli-- all basically modified versions of noodles and cheese. When went plant-based, this satisfying combo was the hardest thing to give up. That is probably why I went to work immediately to…
