OK, I hope I’m not falling for fake news, but this came across my Google feed, and thought I’d check it out. Kind of surprised if it is true that is hasn’t been reported here.
The claim is that free birth control in Colorado caused unplanned pregnancies and abortions to plummet, and saving millions of dollars in health-care in the process.
The full story is here.
The original claim was made on Facebook that over the last 5 years Colorado has offered free birth control and:
- Unintended pregnancies dropped by 40%
- Abortion rate fell by 42%
- Millions were saved in public health coverage
The fact checking site found that these claimed were actually under-reported and that the effect of free birth control had an even more striking effect.
Worth checking out, hope it’s really true.
The thing that bothers me is that so many of the people who are anti-abortion are also anti-birth control. Maybe this would get them to shut up, or at least be put in their place.
