Back in 2017, the Daily Kos community rallied around a special election effort in Fairfax, Virginia for a chance to flip a seat on the school board and start the blue wave in that county. “We the People” won that fight by driving up turnout in a summer election and yielded a 2-1 victory. Now, “We” have a chance to keep the Blue wave flowing and the Fairfax Education Association has endorsed me and wants another victory.
I’m Karen Keys-Gamarra, a Fairfax County Public School Board member. Fairfax County, VA, has 1.1 million residents, and is one of the most important democratic vote sinks in the nation, and I’m up for re-election. Back in 2017, I could only hope that I’d have the chance to fight for our teachers and students. Since then, I’ve listened to our employees and focused on improving the work climate by budgeting for competitive wages, reducing class sizes and keeping the channels of communication wide open.
I’m proud to have earned the seal of approval from the Fairfax Education Association/Virginia Education Association/National Education Association! And I want to keep fighting for our staff by providing more support, like an opportunity for staff to provide input on employee concerns without fear of reprisal.
If you would like to keep the blue wave going in Fairfax, Virginia, please join the effort by going to my WEBSITE to support this effort and take a look at my new video while you’re there. Together, “We”, the FEA and Karen Keys-Gamarra can keep the progressive effort going to make sure all employee voices are heard.
