Donald Trump is still trying to convince the public that the Mueller report exonerates him (it explicitly does not) and real quick shift the focus to bogus investigations into his political opponents. It’s no surprise, since variations on this have been a top Trump tactic since day one.
“Mueller, and the A.G. based on Mueller findings (and great intelligence), have already ruled No Collusion, No Obstruction,” Trump tweeted Monday morning, falsely. “These were crimes committed by Crooked Hillary, the DNC, Dirty Cops and others! INVESTIGATE THE INVESTIGATORS!”
It’s true that William Barr, Trump’s hand-picked cover-up artist, has done his best to decide for Trump and hide Robert Mueller’s own report. But Mueller’s report says in so many words, “While this report does not conclude that the president committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him” on obstruction of justice. What else it says neither the public nor Congress knows, because Barr has kept a lid on it.
And isn’t it interesting that Trump wants us to believe that his political opponents are guilty of the exact same things he’s under suspicion of? He can’t even come up with a new thing for Hillary Clinton and the DNC to supposedly have done wrong.
Trump can’t change the basic facts: The Mueller report is still out there and it still “does not exonerate him.” The investigation did find serious wrongdoing by a staggering number of people who were in Trump’s inner circle during the 2016 campaign. And polls show that a strong majority of Americans want the Mueller report made public.
