over the past weeks, Rachel has interviewed many Dem Presidential candidates. Including Julian Castro, Eric Swalwell, Amy Klobuchar, Cory Booker, Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, Mayor Pete, Beto, Kirsten Gillibrand.
Hope I am not leaving any out…
I’m going to break this down into 2 classes. Forgettable interviews, and memorable interviews. A forgetable interview is one where the candidate may have excellent positions but doesn’t say anything particularly interesting or memorable. Doesn’t mean they aren’t a good candidate. … A memorable interviewer is where the candidate comes off strong and interesting. Maybe someone I would vote for. Of course this does show my bias and you may have a very different opinion.
Its kind of interesting how the candidates are not that different in policy, but some of them just don’t register the way others do. Not sure why.
I guess one thing I notice looking at this is that I’m not really into love and compromise and bringing everyone together. A little bit of that is OK just like a little bit of salt, but too much love and compromise I find boring and annoying.
Forgettable interviews.
- Kirsten Gillibrand. She was very low key. She talked about changing her positions. I think at the end she perked up a bit and showed a little life.
- Cory Booker. Very earnest guy. I like what he says about love, hope, aspirations. But somehow that doesn’t get me too far.
- Beto O’Rourke. Enthusiastic. Lots of hand motions. Can’t really recall anything in particular he said.
- Amy Klobuchar. Quite solid. Infrastructure. Wants to bring everyone together on common ground. So boring.
- Eric Swalwell. I liked when Rachel introduced his commercial for gun control. But then when he said he wanted a cabinet with Republicans, I felt like that was all I needed to hear.
- Julian Castro. Earnest guy. He was mayor of San Antonio, right. Clearly well qualified. I just find him totally boring to watch. Never says anything remotely interesting.
Memorable interviews.
- Elizabeth Warren. Very strong, I think. she has a lot of passion and a lot of positions to talk about.
- Kamala Harris. She does speak very well. Clearly a legal background, you can see that she thinks about each question rather than giving a stock answer. Good answer on her opposition to death penalty.
- Mayor Pete. I was quite impressed with his interview last night. Certainly I can see why he is considered a top contender.
