From HuffPost:
“President Trump faced an unprecedented situation,” Barr said at the news conference held at the Justice Department. “As he entered into office, and sought to perform his responsibilities as president, federal agents and prosecutors were scrutinizing his conduct before and after taking office, and the conduct of some of his associates.”
He continued: “At the same time, there was relentless speculation in the news media about the president’s personal culpability. Yet, as he said from the beginning, there was in fact no collusion.”
Barr justified the decision not to charge the president with obstruction in part on a reading of President Trump's intent. He was angry at the two-year investigation, Barr said, and therefore not trying to obstruct justice, avoid questions, or contest the findings. He was just mad and frustrated at being investigated in the first place.
Pardon me? Hasn’t excessive scrutiny, accusations and distractions been the modus operandi from the press and the opposing party FOR EVERY PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE SINCE BILL CLINTON?
Once again, our entitled little baby of a President has trouble handling criticism. Somehow, the Attorney General equates this upsetting circumstance as reason enough that obstruction of justice accusations don’t carry the weight they normally would for ANYONE ELSE.
We are bound to repeat history if we don’t learn from it, and the general public, unfortunately, forgets what they see and hear within weeks. Thus, the hypocrites and liars win the war.
It’s early today. We’ve yet to discover what is constituted in Trump’s obstruction charges, but to suggest that having a context for obstructing a probe in any way is an excuse, particularly when it’s built around the theory that he’s too angry and upset to function like every other normal person and businessperson is required to do daily (without committing a crime) is just too much bullshit.
To hell with Attorney General and to hell with Trump. And anyone who would defend this indefensible excuse for obstructing justice.
