On the road with Greg. Fallon, Nevada for the night Value Inn. Today we went over Luther Pass. 7377 feet. Chains required which we didn't have. we bought chains off of another car which came from the other direction and was taking them off. Pass was slushy but hardly icy. We stopped at state park on the American River. Then South Lake Tahoe. This portion of the trip saw us go through several elevation zones. From the costal cedars, oaks, and forests of introduced eucalyptus, we then went through the Central Valley and many groves of pistachios, walnuts, hazelnuts, and almonds. Around Scramento, many wetlands, Going up the mountains, we saw pondersas give way to spruce and fir, then at the top, birch and aspen. Very beautuful. A few pics of Tahoe. Then off to Carson City and a visit to the Capitol Building. Lunch at the Fox Pub. Down the road aways and the trees have been left behind. We went through sage desert and stopped at the Lahontan Resovoir and saw American white pelicans (in Nevada!), great blue heron, rough legged hawk, and several pairs of magnificent western grebes! Then to here in Fallon at the Value Inn, clean and reccommended for a local drive in motel. A surprisingly good Chinese dinner. Off to bed after planning and bookkeeping. Motel is across the street from the Fallon - Churchill Volunteer Fire Department. I will add more pics later.
