15 NOW 18 Reasons To Impeach Trump And Why It Will NOT Hurt The Democratic Party In 2020
I understand the myriad concerns regarding impeachment and its potential to stall in the Senate.
I also understand why it is imperative that the House begin impeachment proceedings immediately!
Not only does history tell a very different story than the one we’ve been led to believe regarding the Clinton impeachment backlash (see Lawrence O’Donnell’s tweet below), but this issue is not, and has not been, about politics. This is a moral and ethical issue that will be historically judged for all time.
The question will be: What did the American people and lawmakers do when faced with black and white evidence that the American President committed crimes prior to and during his presidency, and that those crimes were instrumental in affording Trump the office of the POTUS?
Here are my thoughts. I’d love to hear what your thoughts are in the comment section below:
1) Failure To Impeach Trump Would Be An EXTREMELY Dangerous Precedent To Set
Choosing not to impeach Donald Trump would establish that if the President's party simply obstructs and protects him or her long enough, the opposing party will concede and move on.
2) Failure To Impeach Trump Will Embolden An Already Out Of Control Republican Party And POTUS
Just as children learn what they can and can't get away with, by choosing not to impeach, the Democrats would be teaching Republicans and Trump that they can keep pushing the envelope further and further.
3) If Not Now, When?
After what we’ve learned in just the unredacted portions of the Mueller report (can you even imagine how damaging the redacted portions must be?), can we honestly afford to look the other way?
Where is the red line?
There is a limited window of opportunity, based on the facts exposed in the Mueller Report, in which to impeach. Trump has already committed crimes, which are now memorialized in the Mueller report. How many crimes does one need to commit to warrant impeachment?
4) Legitimization Of The New Trump Conspiracy Theory
Trump and the Republicans are currently disseminating a conspiracy theory that Democrats have changed the Mueller report, to include damaging information about the POTUS. Failure to impeach will only cement the validity of that conspiracy in the minds of Trump supporters.
5) EVERYONE Will Watch Trump Impeachment Hearings!
For a variety of reasons, many people in the United States simply vote Republican, regardless of the candidate. Many are far too inundated with work and daily life to be burdened with the day to day onslaught of Trump’s abhorrent and illegal behavior. However, some are honestly decent people who would be horrified to discover his true nature.
Although these disengaged voters would never go the effort of reading the Mueller report, and they would not watch regular congressional hearings and inquiries, they would view and pay close attention to impeachment hearings.
It is absolutely crucial that Trump supporters hear directly from cabinet members, Donald Trump’s friends, his family members, and campaign officials. Trump supporters must hear the facts that these people supplied to Robert Mueller, in their own words, and from their own mouths. Anything less will result in Trump and his supporter decrying “Fake News.”
6) Providing And Legitimizing Republican Talking Points
In failing to impeach now, given the facts laid bare in the Mueller report, Democrats will be providing Republican lawmakers with seemingly legitimate talking points:
“If the Mueller report had uncovered any wrongdoing or crimes, Democrats would have moved to impeach Donald Trump immediately.”
Delaying impeachment will provide Republicans with an additional talking point and argument as we move closer to 2020:
“The Democrats are using impeachment as a political tool, in an effort to sway the 2020 elections.”
7) The Mueller Report Information Must Reach As Many People As Possible
It is not necessary to awaken all Trump supporters to his crimes and unethical behavior. Trump won by a slim margin in swing states. Peeling off only a few thousand votes in each swing district would ensure a Trump loss in 2020.
8) What Message Does It Send To The World If We Do Not Attempt To Impeach?
What message does it send to our allies and, more importantly, other foreign adversaries, to say that any person or entity is allowed to conspire to undermine our democracy, install the POTUS of their choice, and then affect the decisions of the POTUS for their own benefit, without consequence? In failing to act and establish a red line, we leave our country open to attack by every potential bad actor.
9) We Must Protect Our Intelligence Information, And That Of Our Allies
Donald Trump and his family have access to the most sensitive intelligence data in the world and the ability to betray our country in the most heinous of ways. It is vital that they be continually reminded that they are under constant watch so they are less likely to access and share this information.
However, the only way to truly secure our most consequential and valuable intelligence data is to remove Trump and all members of his family from the White House ASAP!
10) Unlike Clinton, Trump's Scandals And Lies Impact Our National Security
Unfortunately, many saw Clinton's affair as a personal and marital issue, and not an indictment regarding his character or fitness for office.
Therefore, the general public (many of whom cheat as well), saw Clinton’s impeachment as overreach. The same cannot be said in regard to Mueller’s findings regarding Trump’s behavior.
Although many people would and do cheat, they would not commit crimes or betray their country.
Exposing Donald Trump’s deeds on an international and public stage, and calling witnesses to testify under oath would reveal to everyone in the world that this is bigger than an affair or “locker room talk.”
11) Unlike Donald Trump, Bill Clinton Was A
Popular President
Donald Trump has never reached an average approval rating above approximately 42%, even when factoring in the most conservative and biased of polls. Therefore, unlike Clinton, the majority of America is not on Trump’s side.
In addition, and unlike Donald Trump, Bill Clinton actually improved the economy. Democrats have the ability, and should use the momentum of his failures in the economy. This includes the Trump tax scam (which many Americans — even Trump supporters — are currently experiencing) to show that he is not only an inept policymaker, but a criminal as well.
12) Equal Treatment Under The Law
In the Clinton era, a majority of the public had more blind trust in politicians. Now, more than ever, the public is aware of greed and corruption in politics and how the law is improperly and unfairly applied.
Failure to even attempt impeachment will further demonstrate that some people in the United States are truly above the law.
In 2016, over 100 million eligible voters stayed home and refused to cast a vote for any candidate because of their disgust in a system that is biased to favor the wealthy and well-connected. Our country cannot afford to give these uninspired, potential voters any reason to sit out the 2020 election!
13) ALL Congress Members MUST Publicly State If They Support Trump’s Illicit Actions, ON THE RECORD!
All House And Senate members must be forced to either support and defend Donald Trump or condemn him, in public, after the Mueller findings have been exposed through the impeachment process and public testimony.
14) Millennials Will Be The Largest Voting Demographic By 2020
Millennials, by and large, want political leaders who are willing to take a stand and fight (so do I). More so than any other demographic in American, this group of would-be voters are unwilling to support a party that cowers in the corner and places politics above morals and ethics. It is the reason why many millennials refused to vote for Clinton in 2016, resulting in this Trump presidency.
15) There Is No Guarantee That Democrats Will Regain The Senate In 2020
Postponing impeachment until Democrats control both arms of the Congress is foolish. If Democrats fail to regain the Senate in 2020, they will have wasted momentum and the general population may be less interested.
16) There Is Zero Guarantee That A Democrat Will Win The Presidency In 2020
17) It Is The Moral And Responsible Thing To Do
18) It Is The Constitutional Duty Of Congress To Impeach An Unfit President Who Has Violated His Or Her Oath Of Office, To Protect We The People And Our Country!
