It’s a gray Tuesday, April 23, 2019, but that doesn’t stop the news from coming from LMLOS.
I do have to brag a minute. I’ve been running my news aggregate page on Facebook since 2013, and I’ve been doing it on my own as a labor of love. I’ve spent very little on advertising or outreach to build it, focusing on finding and posting news. However, today, I was informed by a banner on the page that we’ve surpassed 3000 likes.
I’m celebrating with a cup of chocolate peanut butter flavored coffee.
If you like having your news gathered for you from various sources, please continue to recommend these Round-Ups and consider buying me a coffee on Ko-fi.com. It helps me continue to write, homeschool, and run the political news aggregate page.
As always, there will be a thread below for new or breaking news. And please, share any thoughts you have below.
NEWS STORIES
Klobuchar urges CNN town hall audience: 'That's when you guys are supposed to cheer, OK?' -- -- (The Hill) This was an unfortunate moment, and drew apropos comparisons to Jeb Bush's "Please clap." Most people think it has to do with the speed of her speech rather than a message falling flat though. Plus, she was the first person up in a back-to-back match-up of 5 candidates, so maybe that had something to do with it.
Warren on Trump impeachment: "I took an oath to uphold the Constitution" -- -- (Axios) Absolutely. And if we wish to maintain any integrity in our government or the institutions of this nation, then we have no choice BUT to impeach. This isn't a about a blowjob or lying by omission to congress. This is a President who has openly courted hostile foreign powers, committed tax fraud, and embraced Nazi ideals. He needs to go.
Pete Buttigieg Is The Only Top 2020 Democrat Taking Money From Washington Lobbyists -- -- (HuffPo) This gives me pause. We are in the middle of demanding changes to our electoral funding system. I don't think it's a bridge to far to ask our candidates to abide by that. I knew Pete wasn't a progressive, but he was at least pretending to be. Now he doesn't even have that. Even Booker and Harris aren't doing this.
UnitedHealth clients needed more mental health care; United said no -- -- (MPR News) For profit health care is killing people. And America stigmatizes the need for proper mental health care so badly, most plans don't even include it. So much of our health is interconnected, and the job of a for-profit agency is to deny the care and save money.
Trump unleashes on the media in morning tweetstorm -- -- (Politico) Yet again calling the media "the Enemy of the People." He also demanded the Times apologize to him begging and on their knees. Another story must be breaking soon. Probably Mueller's visit to Congress?
Sanders campaign releases internal poll showing wide battleground leads in Trump matchup -- -- (The Hill) Sanders beats Trump handily in three states that were key in handing the US to Trump. This comes on top of a UNH poll showing Sanders pulled ahead of Biden by double digits, and a statistical tie in Iowa between the two.
Bernie Sanders Doesn’t Need 2016 Support Levels to Win Lots of Delegates -- (NY Mag) This article was quite surprising and pointed out something I hadn't even considered, and had, in fact, forgotten about -- viability level. We look at the spread of support in a 20 challenger race, but we also need to remember that the Democrats instituted a 15% threshhold for delegates. In only two recent polls do more than 2 people pass that threshhold.
White House tells official not to comply with Democratic subpoena over security clearances -- -- (CNN) Trump is apparently declaring war on Congress. He's ordered an official to IGNORE a congressional subpoena. Trump's desire for a dick-waving contest is going to destroy what little comity existed.
The Mueller Report Was My Tipping Point -- -- (The Atlantic) The author's bonifides are impressive, and even more, an indication that there are people in the GOP who understand the basic threat to our country is more important than maintaining an illusion of power. And also, that Trump, more than anything, spells the end of the GOP as they know it.
Elizabeth Warren was asked about keeping police safe. Her answer was a primer on racial justice. -- -- (Think Progress) Her answer shows why she's in my top three. At the heart of our criminal justice system is a problem with systemic racism. More police, more prisons, more guns will not fix the problem. We need a complete overhaul. We need to change the way we view justice and determine what that means for sentencing and rehabilitation.
