!Buenos dias! I hope you’ve all had a great week and are settling in to an even better weekend! I want to start off this morning by offering my deepest appreciation and respect to every one of you. You’ve made this kickoff week of our Kamala2020 community group an oasis of positivity and camaraderie. If we can continue improving upon this promising start throughout the campaign, I believe we’ll prove beyond any doubt that we can overcome the obstacles of negativity and partisan bickering that have frustrated so many of us for far too long.
Let’s get started with our very first Saturday Celebration!
I have a big announcement! Thanks to the initiative of one of our community group members and brother of my heart, 2thanks, we now have our very own secured ActBlue Kossacks4Kamala2020 😃
I want to make clear that this is not a Daily Kos-endorsed project or activity, but powered by our very own Kamala2020 community!
2thanks presented this news in the comments yesterday, and we raised $180. Let’s see what today brings!
I received a very encouraging response from admins to my request to fundraise for Kamala, and I want to share just a portion of that message:
“Appreciate your positive approach to campaigning on behalf of your candidate, which is very important for us this cycle. The more examples of it the better.”
This is because of YOU! I hope everyone who’s participated this week is giving yourself a well-deserved round of applause — I know I’m applauding you. Congratulations!
You’re the driving force behind this group because one thing’s for sure, I haven’t done any of this on my own. What’s also certain is that it’s unthinkable that these daily posts could continue without a group effort. That’s why I’d like to dedicate our first comment thread below for volunteers to host and contribute to the fabric of this community group. It’s gonna be a long and grueling campaign season and we’ll never get through this without one another’s support. Each one of you can bring your own voice, your own style and enthusiasm to our posts, and I can’t wait to see the beautiful results! Let’s join together and help build our community group into something that not only makes ourselves proud, but also makes our candidate proud. Let’s make a joyful noise!
On to our roundup, and let’s start with the LIFT Act...
What is Senator Harris’ LIFT the Middle Class Act? The following is from her senate website:
October 18, 2018
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Kamala D. Harris announced the LIFT (Livable Incomes for Families Today) the Middle Class Act, legislation to provide middle class and working families with a tax credit of up to $6,000 a year—or up to $500 a month—to address the rising cost of living. According to one survey, 57% of Americans do not have enough cash to cover a $500 unexpected expense—meaning that a rent increase, medical bill, or child care expense could lead to a financial emergency.
“Americans are working harder than ever but stagnant wages mean they can’t keep up with cost of living increases,” said Senator Harris. “We should put money back into the pockets of American families to address rising costs of childcare, housing, tuition, and other expenses. Our tax code should reflect our values and instead of more tax breaks for the top 1% and corporations, we should be lifting up millions of American families.”
The LIFT the Middle Class Act would:
- Provide up to $6,000 a year per family, in the form of a refundable tax credit.
- Tax credit applies to households earning under $100,000 annually.
- Tax credit provides up to $3,000 for single filers earning under $50,000 per year.
- The tax cut can be accessed each month or at the end of the year.
- Families can receive up to $500 per month.
- Individuals can receive up to $250 per month.
- The Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy estimates the LIFT Act would impact one in every two workers and two out of every three children in America. In addition, ITEP estimates approximately 1 million Pell Grant eligible students would qualify for the credit of up to $3,000.
I hope we all will familiarize ourselves with Kamala’s proposals, the pros and the cons, so that we can not only talk with ease to our family and friends about her vision during the campaign, but also push her to do even better than her best to provide policies we all can get behind. This is just the beginning of this conversation, so I hope we’ll all do our homework and get ourselves better informed.

Group Guidelines
The Kamala2020 community group has been created to positively support Senator Kamala Harris, and not to engage in negativity towards other community members or any other Democrats running in the 2020 primaries.
Daily Kos is a huge community and there are fellow members and readers alike who do not share in our support of, or enthusiasm for, Kamala’s campaign — all should be made to feel welcomed here.
What’s not welcomed here is petty bickering over any of our preferred candidates, or personal attacks on fellow Democrats. We’re not responsible for the actions of others who may offend, insult or attempt to sow discord and disunity —
that’s on them.
What we are responsible for are our own words and actions —
that’s 100% on us.
From the deepest part of my heart, I’d like to ask all group members, as well as all those dropping in who support or are interested in Kamala’s historic bid for the nomination, that we not respond to negativity with negativity... though at times over the course of the next year+ it may be increasingly difficult. Let’s do better than our best and respond with love and respect, or hold our peace. I believe we’re all familiar with the following ageless wisdom —
if we don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all 🤐
❤️❤️❤️ You’re a shining star, no matter who you are! ❤️❤️❤️
That’s it for today’s roundup! I hope everyone will share your favorite posts, quotes, 2 and 4-legged family pics and music in the comments… let’s make a joyful noise! ♫♫♫
