Thus far, I’ve been fairly impressed by Pete Buttigieg’s skill in handling town hall and interview questions but hadn’t seen him deliver a set piece speech.
This speech given for the Victory Fund today should have received more coverage.
It starts of in fairly typical way, but I’ve set the video to begin just before the 8-minute mark, which is just after Mayor Pete introduces his husband. It soon turns intensely personal. I’ve never seen a more simple and eloquent way to communicate something far more important than just that being gay is not a choice. I think he can reach some people who, perhaps out of ignorance but not inherent bigotry, previously lacked empathy for gay people.
