Last night, Senator Kamala Harris spoke at the Sun-Reporter’s 75th Anniversary Gala in San Francisco, and she didn’t disappoint! A mix between hometown encouragement born from very personal experience, and stump speech, Kamala brought what so many are now expecting — Truth and Justice.
So begins our daily roundup!
Quotes of the Night
This is an inflection moment in the history of our country, this is a moment in time that is requiring us each, as individuals and collectively, to look in a mirror and ask a question: that question being, who are we?
The Sun-Reporter is an example of the significance of the black press in America. There are issues that are unique to the black community, and until we have true diversity in the press we must rely on papers like the Sun-Reporter.
Without a free press, the American people wouldn’t have risen up and said, ‘You’ve gone too far
It was a free press that went down in droves to the border to let us know of the human rights violations caused by the government separating young children from their parents who were attempting to cross the border into the United States.
We’re being challenged by an administration’s display of raw power not to raise people up, but to beat them down.
The vast majority of us have so much more in common than what seperates us, and we must know and speak that truth.
“The Sun-Reporter is an example of the significance of the black press in America,” she said. “There are issues that are unique to the black community, and until we have true diversity in the press we must rely on papers like the Sun-Reporter.
“People were telling her the time wasn’t right, that no one like her had ever been district attorney and that she should wait her turn, Harris said.
“But one voice spoke loudly and said, ‘I know it is your time, and I will have your back,’” Harris said. “And that was Amelia Ashley-Ward [of the Sun-Reporter]”
But with people like President Trump routinely bashing the news media and even attempting to nearly criminalize a free press, it’s vital to remember just how important media is, she said, arguing that the country is a table held up by four legs: the three branches of government and an independent press.
In her own words

Group Guidelines
The Kamala2020 community group has been created to positively support Senator Kamala Harris, and not to engage in negativity towards other community members or any other Democrats running in the 2020 primaries.
All should be made to feel welcomed here. What’s not welcomed here is petty bickering over any of our preferred candidates, or personal attacks on fellow Democrats. We’re not responsible for the actions of others who may offend, insult or attempt to sow discord and disunity — that’s on them.
What we are responsible for are our own words and actions — that’s 100% on us.
I’d like to ask all group members, as well as those dropping by who support or are interested in Kamala’s bid for the nomination, that we not respond to negativity from other campaign’s supporters with negativity. Let’s do better than our best and respond with respect, or try to hold our peace. Doing no harm costs us nothing... pie-fights will cost us everything.
Let’s be as gracious as Kamala is toward the other candidates in the race!
💙💙💙 Happy Friday, let’s be good to one another! 💙💙💙
