In his testimony before the Senate, Attorney General William Barr caused more than a stir by saying “I think spying did occur” in the FBI’s 2016 investigation into the Trump campaign’s connection with Russia. Donald Trump and other Republicans have been treating the mere fact that Barr said it as evidence that every conspiracy ever dreamed up about the “illegal” start of the Russia investigation was proven. So when FBI Director Christopher Wray testified last week that he doesn’t have “any evidence” to back up Barr’s claim, it immediately put him on the outs with Trump and on the short list of Republicans who were failing to properly bend the knee.
Reports Talking Points Memo, Trump claimed that Wray’s answer was so wrong, he “couldn’t understand” it. In fact, Trump said that the “spying” answer from Barr was “perfect,” and that Wray gave “a ridiculous answer.”
