Jay Inslee has a plan to help take action to combat climate change
He's proposing the creation of a Climate Conservation Corps. This new proposal would give young people the opportunity to serve in the domestic and global effort to secure a healthy future and would provide Americans of all ages and backgrounds with education, skills, job training, and employment opportunities in building more resilient, just, and prosperous communities.
This is a real, concrete step toward defeating climate change while creating thousands of clean jobs in the process: If you support the creation of the Climate Corps, add your name today.
Jay's proposal for this new Climate Corps will have three distinct components: a National Climate Service Corps, a Global Climate Service Corps, and a Green Careers Network, providing skill-based training and supportive resources to build stable jobs and career ladders in growing green industries.
The first of these programs, funded as an expansion of AmeriCorps and service-year programs, is the National Climate Service Corps. Under this program, young Americans will have the opportunity to serve in strengthening sustainability in both urban and rural communities throughout the United States. It's an exciting addition to the already stellar AmeriCorps program, because we know that AmeriCorps members not only make tremendous contributions to our communities, they also expand opportunities for themselves by gaining the skills and experience to jump-start their careers.
The second component is a Global Climate Service Corps, which will give Americans the opportunity to conduct a tour of service overseas, in the model of the Peace Corps, helping to support local partners in building climate mitigation and resilience, clean water, and sustainable economic development. Since President Trump pulled the United States out of the Paris Climate Accord, we've learned fast that the rest of the world moves on without us -- it's time to get back in the game on a global scale.
The last component of this Climate Corps initiative is a Green Careers Network, which will connect Americans with skills-training, apprenticeship, education opportunities, and direct employment, to put them to work building clean energy solutions and a sustainable economy. We know there are so many good jobs working in clean energy, and it's time to give young people the skills to fill them.
Jay said in his CNN town hall that the most important renewable energy fuel in American is perseverance -- and he was right that we've got it big time. This is one of the best ways we can harness that energy to make real change, and I'm so excited for that future.
Add your name right now if you support Jay's plan to create a Climate Corps to unite service and the fight to defeat climate change.
Humans Are Speeding Extinction and Altering the Natural World at an 'Unprecedented' Pace
The Times reported Monday on the potential extinction of more than one million species around the world due to human activity, including climate change. It proves the climate crisis is here and now, and we need a president who will make America a world leader in confronting this challenge.
My bold climate mission agenda -- starting with the 100% Clean Energy for American plan I released just last week, that takes on all fossil fuels -- is the bold action this nation needs, and this world needs.
Join me to make climate action the center of the 2020 campaign -- we have a goal of 55,000 new donors by midnight tonight, will you or someone you know help us get that much closer to the debate stage? Donate now!
