hester has a fine diary up about how people stay sane in these difficult times. Many of the comments are very good, with ideas that people are using in real-world approaches to the problem.
Most people have found things that work for them, which is so important. Not all do. We see a few in the comment threads that seem to waffle between catatonia and hysteria. I have never approached those extremes (please tell me if I am wrong!), yet, with the daily onslaught of news, the tendencies are known to me.
More below.
Top Comments recognizes the previous day's Top Mojo and strives to promote each day's outstanding comments through nominations made by Kossacks like you. Please send comments (before 9:30pm ET) by email to topcomments@gmail.com or by our KosMail message board.
That said, there are many things that help me, from work to exercise to family to music to reading, but the one I am talking about tonight is right here. In Top Comments. In Daily Kos community.
I don’t find ours to be an oblivious group in any way. Everyone who writes in Top Comments and everyone who comments here seems to me to be reality-based. Compassionate, with the experience and wisdom needed to help compassion win through when challenges are greatest. YOU all help me. You help me with your spirit, with your humor and understanding. You help me with your presence and stability. I feel your commitment even as you help me to feel my own.
We have families and people we care about. We aren’t giving up for even a second, in the fight to take back our world, to make it even better than it was before. I loved Hester’s diary because of the comments, because of the infinity variety of things people do to manage, to get by, to grow.
Those are all things I believe in and am committed to.
Community is at the core, here and offline.
I am not the only one who feels that way. In the comment threads of hester’s diary, scooba wrote this:
Also, I must say, reading diaries and comments on Daily Kos and realizing that there are many others who think and feel as I do is immensely reassuring.
(Don’t worry, the comment is also below in the list of tonight’s comments. You can rec it at your leisure!)
Oh. And baby goat videos. Can’t get enough of them!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
On to tonight’s comments!

Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down. Please remember that comment inclusion in Top Comments does not constitute support or endorsement by diarist, formatter, Top Comments writers or DailyKos. Questions, complaints or comments? From BeninSC:
True to my word, I am submitting these comments from hester’s diary today.
Grey Panther stays sane by reflecting on our young people with their infinite promise and willingness to take on problems we have not solved before them.
nilso replies with thoughts that appeal to my love for creativity.
With this profound comment, sf bob takes on remaining sane, while doing so much more!
And in this comment, by Skookum, look at the terrific spirit our community members bring to the table!
Hereis scooba’s comment, referenced above!
And, finally, this comment is from first-time Daily Kos commenter, Wren Wren, with some information about insulin that I certainly did not know. Hope it helps with the public debate about that! (No, that is from Marissa Higgins’s diary about Colorado capping insulin prices, not hester’s sanity diary.)
niemann highlighted this comment by DingusTTM. From serendeputy’s Lobster Fishing is my Passion...why I'm giving it up.
