That is just a Supreme Court case, it is not my body. My body can no longer reproduce, so the “case” no longer applies, if it ever did. Even so, and even then, my body is my own. Did I own it because of a Supreme Court decision?
I have never had an abortion. I never sought an abortion. Yet, my body is my own. Who, whether government or private, can decide what I do with my own body?
How can a government exercise control over my own body, demand that I do, or not do something so private...bear a child.
Yes, I am a mother, proud of my two adult daughters, who also have never had an abortion. I am also a proud grandmother of four, two step, and two of one of my daughters...two boys...two girls.
My granddaughters own their own bodies, just as I own mine.
Why does a “court” or a “legislature” or a “government” of any state or federal government get priority over determining and owning my own “womb” or the “womb” of any woman?
If a State or a Country demands that any woman turn over her womb under governmental control, are women free? Could they fly the banner of “live free or die”?
These issues are something I have been discussing with a life long friend, who had an abortion, and has felt shamed by it because of religion, and because of “government”. I have always stood by her, and do today, even while she is a grandmother, just like me!
In discussion the recent, as well as the lifelong effort at overturning a decision that granted something we should already “own”, i.e., control over our own bodies, she and I have been discussing why we have not been proactive, and whether we should be.
It is time….
What is the right course? Should the Court be it?
