While recent articles have stated that Sanders is the 10th candidate to support impeachment, he really isn’t. Instead, he has made a very tepid statement on impeachment.
“I believe the Judiciary Committee should begin impeachment inquiries,” Sanders said at a campaign rally in Henderson, Nev. “That is inquiries, not impeachment, to determine whether or not Trump has committed impeachable offenses.”
Sanders reasoned:
“But here is the danger, which I think is why Nancy Pelosi and many people are struggling: It may well be that Donald Trump wants to be impeached because he knows that in the Senate … there are 47 Democrats and not all of them today would impeach Trump.”
Sanders statements stand in stark contrast to other Dem candidates, including the main rival for his voters — Sen. Elizabeth Warren. The trend after the Mueller statement has been for waffling candidates to join the call for impeachment, as Cory Booker just did.
While Nancy Pelosi is taking a lot of heat on this site by those who think she is walking too slow, there has been very little discussion of how our Presidential candidates differ in their impeachment views — including those like Bernie who are making it clear that they are NOT calling for impeachment at this juncture.
Worth discussing? I think so.
Biden (who is not even as tepid as Bernie on this) —
