If we were waiting for our moral imperative, it was delivered last night.
Republican or Democrat, everyone in our community needs to understand the implication of the PWC GOP nominating John Gray.
They had the chance yesterday to nominate someone who focuses his public service on local, kitchen table issues. They instead chose someone who wore a MAGA hat as he handed out his literature at the polls.
They had a chance to nominate someone with extensive experience working with transportation agencies to secure transit dollars and road projects. They instead nominated a man who wants to see our local law enforcement conscripted by ICE.
They had the chance to nominate a man who has shown the political courage in the past to buck ideology and partisanship in favor of what is humane and right. They instead nominated a man who believes the trans community is centered around boys competing with girls on sports teams.
Make no mistake, I disagree with Marty Nohe on a lot of things, including his land use policies and commitments to developers. But he is someone who has a vision of our community rooted in improving quality of life.
John Gray is a repackaged form of the xenophobia trumpeted by Corey Stewart for the last 12 years, merged with a brand of transphobia championed by Bob Marshall.
Just take a look at his platform.
John Gray will embody everything that has made our county unfriendly to a dynamic, diverse business community for a decade, and would usher in the kind of racial injustice not seen since the days of 9500 Liberty.
Every single Republican candidate now has a choice to make - are you going to embrace politics of fear and division that characterizes Donald Trump, Corey Stewart and their ilk? Or do you stand with the majority minority population of our county and reject bigotry?
I'm supporting Ann Wheeler for Chair, Prince William County, and will do everything in my power in the next 38 days to be the Occoquan Nominee for the honor to run alongside her to help her defeat John Gray.
