Hey all!
(I'm writing this in the waiting room at the clinic where Kim's having chemo, on a tiny smartphone with giant thumbs [my thumbs, not the smartphone's] so please forgive any and all spelling, formatting and general errors!)
I'm sorry it's been so long since I last checked in with you all - busy times, stress and running backwards and forwards... I hope you understand! A quick recap is called for, I think.
Kim has both synovial sarcoma and oligodendroglioma, which is... well, I think "a bugger" covers it... Fortunately, oligodendroglioma is one of the more responsive gliomas, and her oncologists have successfully managed to argue that this is a necessary adjunct treatment to her ongoing sarcoma trial, so the good news on that is that we don't have to find out-of-pocket for the treatment. Honestly, these doctors are fantastic.
So... more chemo basically. Kim now has chemo on Mondays (glioma), Tuesdays (sarcoma), Wednesdays (low-dose infusion for glioma) and Thursdays (sarcoma again). Busy week, huh? Somehow she's still smiling and still able to actually move, let alone, y'know... breathe... she is breathtakingly tough.
The sarcoma continues to respond well, shrinking by whole millimeters every week. That battle is still ongoing, but she's winning it.
The glioma battle has only just begun, but we're very hopeful, as are her doctors, who really feel that this is winnable.
So I've been doing what I can, doing as much as possible for her while I force her to rest (not her favourite activity!) I've also been working on the house, prepping the site for moving and trying to coordinate the last services before we actually get home on foundation. We're pushing for next month, but at this point we'll take "sometime this summer" and be grateful!
Thank you all for the support and well-wishes. Sara R and winglion? We cannot even begin to find the words to express our humble gratitude that you consider us worthy of a community quilt. Kim is overwhelmed every time I mention it. Please know that each and every one of you, njm, BMScott, michelewln, Dixiecollie, AashirsNani, oh my gosh the list is bigger than we could ever even hope for... you are all so very dear to us. Ive said it before, but if you ever find yourselves in southeast Missouri, drop me a line and we'll put the tea on! You are all welcome here, and all deserve so much praise and love. Words just can't do justice to how amazing you are.
Well, that's our news. Good, and, okay...ish... I hope no-one's been too worried. I promise I'll try and keep in touch more (I say that every time before failing miserably to follow through!)
Please take care of yourselves, hold your partner close and never forget to tell them how you feel, even if they're just popping out to the store for bread and milk.
Love
Callum and Kim
