My name is Taylor Jackson, and I am the Campaign Manager for Kathy Ellis.
Today, Kathy Ellis is proud to announce her 2020 Campaign for Congress in Missouri’s 8th Congressional District.
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Addictions Counselor for the past thirty-five years, Ellis has seen first-hand the issues facing the 8th District.
“The residents of Missouri’s 8th District deserve better. We need access to quality and affordable healthcare; well-paying, union jobs; and strong infrastructure development. We need more services to deal with the opioid crisis and to combat the high maternal and infant mortality rates facing the District. We need change,” says Ellis.
Ellis first ran for Congress in 2018, and although she was not elected, she views the campaign as a success.
“I first decided to run for Congress because I wanted more for our District. I was tired of feeling like no one was standing up for the people here, and the problems that we were facing were not being addressed. Our first campaign laid the groundwork for future campaigns in the District, and we saw important issues such as raising the minimum wage and defeating Proposition A [the anti-worker, Right to Work bill] pass here. But, our work isn’t done,” says Ellis.
For too long, this District has been forgotten — it’s been viewed as too red and too difficult to organize in. Yet, as Kathy states, we’ve seen the District change since her 2018 campaign, demonstrating the need to run bold, progressive candidates in tough districts. To win, Kathy will need the support of not only progressives in Missouri, but also progressives around the country. Can you join us today, as we launch our campaign?
