Lately, depressed by Pelosi’s failure to begin the impeachment inquiry, I’ve been forced to revisit the conflicting thoughts I have with regard to this country—my country—the United States of America.
I really want to believe that we can get past this point… but there's one nagging issue that makes me think we really are witnessing the end of the USA as we know it.
As I type, young children are still being placed in cages and separated from their parents—in some cases, I assume, permanently. The fact that we’re now a year into knowing about the cages and cruel separations—and that they’re still happening—doesn’t that mean that our country has already morphed into something else?
I think about the slavery and massacres that this country was built upon and I can’t help but wonder if everything we’re witnessing with trump, the republicans, and the inhumane treatment of migrants at the border is pretty much a spectacular, karma-based flame out of a briefly powerful nation.
Ugly start, ugly end.
It really sucks to feel this way, because at the end of the day, I do love this country. It’s my home. But I hate to see what’s happening here in all of our names.
