If people are going to call Democrats, “socialists,” I say embrace it. And since most people have no idea of what being a socialist means, then why not define it. Oh, if you like this poem, why not share it on all that social media out there.
I'm a Socialist Song
I'm a socialist and I'm okay,
And though I still have to work
Now I get a decent pay,
And I never have to worry
If I break a leg or arm,
Now that healthcare costs are gone
And seeing a doctor brings no chills
Of losing the farm to hospital bills.
I'm a socialist and that's okay
There are new paved roads
And bridges mended every day,
Education's fully funded
And free college is on the way,
Cause the one percent is finally
Being made to pay
Their fair share of taxes.
I'm a socialist and I'm okay
To meet the climate crisis
In a real sustainable way,
Planting trees and solar panels
Electric vehicles on the road
With an environmental strategy
And organics row on row
A better future will unfold.
I'm a socialist and that's okay
But what is the definition
Of socialism, by the way?
Why it's taking care of others
Along with your own self,
It is using public capital
To improve every individual's wealth
And health and opportunity.
So bring together these three prongs
Of socialism, democracy and private capital
And weave a nation happy, smart and strong
For tomorrow and tomorrow and the day after that.
