A Politico/Morning Consult poll released Wednesday is the third poll this month to find significant increase in support among Democratic voters for initiating impeachment proceedings against Donald Trump.
The poll found that 67% of Democrats now say they support impeachment, up from 59% in April. An NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released Sunday found an 18-point rise in Democrats favoring impeachment, from 30% last month to 48% now. The disparity in the two polls stems from the way the questions were asked. Politico asked simply whether voters believed Congress "should or should not" start proceedings to remove Trump from office, while NBC News gave respondents a three-part choice of starting impeachment hearings, continuing investigations, or not holding impeachment hearings.
At the beginning of June, CNN/SSRS released a poll that also showed more Democrats favoring impeachment, with 76% in support, compared to 69% in April.
What's notable in all three polls is the trend line tracking upward among Democratic voters, which also corresponds with more Democratic lawmakers announcing their support for an impeachment inquiry by the day.
