Of course, Trump tweeted about this change:
Why is “Deportations” capitalized? Who knows!
He also defended the raids earlier today. Mind you, there is no valid defense for raiding people’s homes, separating families, and, at minimum, spreading trauma like wildfire through communities. But of course, Trump tried to argue that these families have been evading the law in some form or another:
Prior to Trump’s decision, many Democrats had spoken out and asked him to call them off. One example is House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who released a statement earlier today, saying, "These families are hard-working members of our communities and our country. The President's action makes no distinction between a status violation and committing a serious crime.” She added that these raids are a “brutal action which will tear families apart and inject terror into our communities."
It’s worth noting that the mayors of many impacted cities have outright said they did not support the raids.
