I read a comment earlier today that got me thinking about 2020. (I am not linking to it, where isn’t important.) It was written by someone who is supporting … one of the individuals who participated in one of the two Democratic debates this week. The individual indicated that s/he wouldn’t ‘settle’ for anyone less than the person’s favored candidate.
Please correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t that precise mindset result in the administration we’re suffering under right now? And isn’t everyone who felt that way now ‘settling’ for far worse?
More below.

I don’t yet have a favorite. I have several that I REALLY like. As the process continues, here are just some of the things you aren’t going to see from me.
I am not going to say that if my preferred candidate isn’t the Democratic nominee that my vote is ‘lost.’ Because it is NOT lost. I will vote with all the passion within me for our nominee. Exactly NONE of the people on those stages could possibly be worse than what we have (and that includes Chuck Todd, who is catastrophically bad in his own right). The facility cleaning staff, after the debates, is better than what we have.
I am not going to use the same tools and the same language against other Democratic candidates that I have used in the past against Republican candidates.
This is a pet peeve of mine. So many, in manifesting their passion for their candidate, seem to have just one level of advocacy - blind hatred of ANY opponent, no matter what party the opponent belongs to. They break out the heavy artillery from Day One.
One hideous consequence to that type of advocacy is that it gives Republicans an attack blueprint for the general election. It gives them a roadmap to divide, demoralize and undermine us. Added to their endless bag of cheats and dirty tricks, little more is needed to defeat us.
I know everyone on Daily Kos has to conduct their campaigning as they see fit. But please. Think about how you do it, and about the consequences of that campaigning. And please please please, support our Democratic nominee. No matter who it is.
The alternative is truly unthinkable.
On to tonight’s comments.
Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.
