US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the cosponsor of the New Green Deal, continues to prefer presidential candidate Governor Jay Inslee’s climate plan.
The Green New Deal champion praised the Democratic governor of Washington's climate proposal Tuesday, calling it the “gold standard climate plan.”
“Jay Inslee’s I think is the gold standard climate plan that we have right now,” Ocasio-Cortez told The Hill Tuesday.
“I do think that Jay Inslee’s plan is a phenomenal blueprint and example of where we need to go. It’s got the scale, the jobs and justice,” she added.
Dismissing questions that this was a direct endorsement of Jay Inslee as a candidate, Representative Ocasio-Cortez was quoted as saying that she isn’t planning to endorse anyone “anytime super soon”. However, she also made it clear that she is unimpressed with Joe Biden’s climate plan which she criticized for its 2050 timeline as being too slow, saying, “Scientifically, anything that is less than helping us cut carbon emissions in half by 2030 is going to be too late.”
Governor Jay Inslee was also critical of Biden’s climate plan Tuesday, telling reporters in Michigan,
“This is our last chance. We don't have 30 years to get this job done. I believe we have to have a president who will look at the CEOs of the oil and gas and coal industry and tell them to stand down."
The 2020 election is not politics as usual. When the new president takes office, we will have only nine years left to act boldly in order to avert the most severe impacts of our climate emergency. Any middle of the road campaign hoping to spare the fossil fuel industry stands a good chance of simply being run over.
Jay Inslee has officially released three components out of five of his comprehensive and innovative America’s Climate Mission. These five components are listed on his campaign website as below:
