How are we going to become an America that agrees upon the fundamental mores or norms of our society? Or to put it more simply, “How are we going to make potable lemonade from so many different fruits that a vast majority of American accepts?”
Many Americans cannot accept the reality of climate change.
Many Americans cannot accept that a woman has the right to terminate her pregnancy.
Many Americans cannot accept the massacre at Sandy Hook occurred.
Many Americans cannot accept that immigrants enrich our country.
Many Americans cannot accept legislation denying the right to vote to fellow Americans.
Many Americans cannot accept America having no state religion.
Many Americans cannot accept election results where a Democrat is elected president.
Many Americans cannot accept the social safety net1.
Many Americans cannot accept the size and power of the American government.
Many Americans cannot accept the race, religion, etc. of their fellow Americans.
Many Americans cannot accept the world moves forward not backward.
Many Americans accept meddling by other nations in our elections as A-OK.
Many Americans accept the current distribution of wealth in America.
I think Speaker Pelosi recognizes that binding the wounds of an America so torn asunder by economic, political, racial and many other divisive influences is the greatest problem faced by not only America but most of the world.
I think speaker Pelosi recognizes that we did not suddenly wake up one morning and discover a nation so divided as to be well along the road to becoming a dysfunctional society and nation.
Many of us traveled decades ignoring what we saw looking out our windows.
Ask yourself which outcome will be more divisive to America impeaching and convicting Donald Trump or watching him stand for reelection as an unimpeached President and lose. I believe that impeaching and convicting Donald Trump of high crimes and misdemeanors will further alienate many of our fellow Americans, perhaps setting America asunder forever. We may disagree with them we must respect their views. We must make a sincere effort to respect their views and open their minds to alternative ways of seeing their society and its problems.
Look at how divided the United Kingdom is over Brexit, the “stalking horse” for many of the same issues that are causing the economic, political and societal anguish that lead to the intense feelings of alienation that many Americans as well as others across the globe are experiencing today.
If the impeachment route is chosen, I believe the crimes of many other officials appointed by President Trump will be forgotten or ignored. I do not pretend to know how impeachment will affect future electionS. If I were to try to catalog all the innumerable crimes committed by President Trump and his appointees, the list could never be completed because his appointees seem to be constantly engaged in new criminal activity or other actions that are precluded either by our Constitution or by statute or by commonly accepted practice.
Nancy Pelosi’s first seven years were spent in the halls of Congress, her father was a Congressman from Baltimore from 1941-47. She counted among her childhood friends Cokie Roberts, the daughter of Majority Leader Rep. Hale Boggs and Rep Lindy Claiborne Boggs, Al Gore, Jr., son of Sen, Albert Gore, Sr., and the children of many other political leaders. Did your father host John Fitzgerald Kennedy at a family dinner when he was running for President? Did you intern with the current Majority Leader of the House of Representatives in a United States Senator’s office? In many ways it would appear that Nancy Pelosi has been groomed to serve our nation during this troubled time since the day she was born.
I think Speaker Pelosi believes the best way forward for all Americans including many that are not counted among her supporters is for a Democratic president to be elected, retention of a majority in the House of Representatives and gaining a majority in the United States Senate.
A new administration, especially a Warren or Harris Administration, will appoint Justice Department officials who will ask the courts to hold accountable President Trump and his many appointees who have shown such great disrespect for the Constitution and our societal norms. One of the most important responsibilities of any administration is to hold wrongdoers accountable both civilly and criminally for their current as well as past actions.
I remember thinking when I heard that President Ford was going to pardon Richard Nixon that he was sending a message to future presidents that no matter which high crime and/or misdemeanor they commit they will never be held accountable for their actions while in office because they were a government official. See Ronald Reagan and Iran-Contra. See George W. Bush and waterboarding and torture. See Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger.
For all those who are so critical of Nancy Pelosi ask yourself what would you do in her shoes knowing that your decisions may help to unite America or set it asunder forever?
Think carefully. Look at how it appears Nancy Pelosi has aged in the last two years. She seems to be carrying her burden, and it is hers alone, with a humility, peerless grace and unrivaled aplomb.

The point of this piece is that I believe we will be far better off in the future if our country is not as divided as it is today. NDP seems to think so as well. While Donald Trump’s life seems to be devoted recklessly breaking any law that gets in his way of doing what he wants when he wants to do it. OUR ANGER TOWARDS DONALD TRUMP MUST NOT MAXIMIZE THE DAMAGE HIS PRESIDENCY IS DOING TODAY AND WILL DO TO AMERICA’S AND OUR PLANET’S FUTURE.
How many have spent 1 nanosecond thinking about how we are going to put this mess back together right? I have spent a lot of time thinking about that problem. It was certainly profitable for Rupert, Rush, Ralph & company tearing our country and planet asunder.
How do we rebuild our government to minimize the power of K-Street in legislation, spending, and our daily lives? How do we persuade our fellow Americans to reallocate many more of our precious resources to emphasize mitigating global warming, providing an equal opportunity for all to receive a high quality education, oh, yeah, providing clean drinking water for all, providing all with opportunity to receive world class healthcare not based upon wealth or geographic location? I’m certain you can add many more.
I’ve read several comments that seem to have little or no respect for the views of our fellow Americans. How can you expect others to respect your views and opinions if you will not expect their views and opinions?
Can it be profitable putting Humpty-Dumpy back together?
Do you know how to define “media persuasion?” The Russians do and started their “media persuasion” campaign for 2020 in the United States months ago. How many of you have noticed it and understand how that sophisticated and clever the concept will be in the future? And silly Tom Steyer wastes precious time and money talking about impeachment when that fool should be thinking about developing new tools to influence public opinion they like progressive candidates.
