My opponent Amanda Chase called yesterday’s inaction by Virginia’s Republican legislators a win for law-abiding gun owners. We know, however, that the only one who benefited from their obstruction was the gun lobby. It was incredibly irresponsible and an abdication of duty that is likely to cost Virginian lives and put our communities at unnecessary risk of further violence.
This is not good governance. This is not representation.
My opponent is out of touch with our community and with our values. The law-abiding gun owners I’ve talked to in our district want universal background checks to keep firearms out of the hands of dangerous individuals. They want red flag laws to ensure that when it’s clear someone has become dangerous, law enforcement has the right to act. They want basic protections in place to keep their families safe, like requiring that guns in at-home day care centers be properly secured while children are in the home (a proposal Chase opposed in 2018 session).
When 94% of American voters support universal background checks, it’s clear we need to act. Can you help us today so that we can be fully prepared to take on our opponents who are backed by the gun lobby?
