Conundrum of the Climate Crisis
One of the many things I can’t figure out is why so many people don’t seem to be convinced of this dire threat to our future and indeed to our present and past. Back in high school when my classmates were cracking jokes about the plight of people of Ethiopia, who could have known that we were the cause. Well now we know without question that we are all in trouble.
With record setting events coming at a seemingly ever increased pace we cannot act fast enough. The very things predicted by scientist for years are front and center. The crisis at the southern border and it’s underlying cause is only the next wave of ever growing problems that will leave no part of the planet untouched.
There is awareness here on our favorite corner of the internet, but I hear (I am deep in the red zone) the same old drivel that even if there is ‘’global warming’’ it ain’t so bad and we didn’t cause it and there is nothing we can do about it and even if we could it would cost to much.
I think all of these assumptions are wrong. We hear daily about fixes that can help. Some are even cheaper than the polluting systems they will replace. There is an old saying ‘’Sometimes it’s easier to do it the hard way’’ OK there isn’t, but seriously this problem was created by us in the consumer nations. It will be us that solves it and we need all hands on deck.
We have many talented writers here on DK that cover this, the facts are out there, but If it takes people seeing first hand to believe in the calamity that is upon us it won’t be a long wait. I know that human ingenuity can bring us through this path to recovering some form of balance with our planet, and that the solution’s may just be less painful than some people think. I would give up a lot to ensure a future for my children(and myself the way things seem to be going) as I am sure most would if only they were truly aware that future was imperiled. But I don’t see it as giving things up or having less, only a change to a different way.
The severe weather events should be acting as a flashing billboard of a wakeup call but still there are lots of folks that just won’t see. I am still looking for ways to convince people to act ,flow charts? better publicist? you got any? One way or another we will prevail! That’s my two cents worth.
Thanks for reading.
