According to the Washington Post, Sens. Rand Paul (KY) and Mike Lee (UT) have placed “holds” on the bill to fund the 9/11 first-responders’ fund for seven decades, citing the need to demonstrate the “offsets” that will pay for it. Never mind that they didn’t demand any offsets when slashing taxes of corporations and billionaires…… They have no humanity; if that wasn’t clear before (it was), it certainly should be clear to everyone now.
I have quite simple, obvious and elegant ideas, as do the many commenters in WaPo, on how to offset the funds. Here’s my favorite one:
We stop paying private companies $700 per day per person to detain and torment asylum seekers, and let them live with relatives or sponsors, reunite with their families, get jobs, and pay taxes, as most undocumented workers do, while they await their hearings on their asylum claims. A win-win-win solution.
Please add your suggestions in the comments. Thanks for playing.
