At first glance, Trump and his favorite ‘advisor’ Peter Thiel would seem to have little in common. Thiel is an openly gay man, Trump wants to roll back LGBTQ rights. Trump is a fake billionaire, Thiel is the real thing (thanks to PayPal, Facebook, Palantir).
But both men share a hatred of democracy albeit for different reasons. Trump admires ethno-kloptocracies like Putin’s Russia, while Thiel is an ultra-libertarian who famously stated:
“Most importantly, I no longer believe that freedom and democracy are compatible”
Ironic, since the system Thiel hates allowed him to accumulate vast wealth — something that would not have been possible in his native Germany.
Both Trump and Thiel share a contempt for women, although Trump makes an exception for Ivanka and for young women he can grope. In particular, women of color drive Trump into a rage — as evidenced by the chant of “Send her back!” he led at his Klan campaign rally last evening.
For Thiel, America began its long decline back in 1920 when women were granted the right to vote with the passage of the 19th Amendment :
Since 1920, the vast increase in welfare beneficiaries and the extension of the franchise to women — two constituencies that are notoriously tough for libertarians — have rendered the notion of “capitalist democracy” into an oxymoron.
How about starting a social media campaign of “Send him back!” for the immigrant Peter Thiel.
