Jane Mayer is out with a story: The Case of Al Franken in the New Yorker. This is going to throw huge bomb in to the campaign, but it will be a dirty bomb not an explosion. The clear demonstration of the RW hit job nature of the Tweeden photo and accusation. It is going to hit some real fault lines and will play in some very unexpected ways as campaigns try and figure out responses.
Obviously Gillibrand will take a hit. But all the senators will have to respond as the Caucus does not come out looking good. Harris will get some major spillover also. With Biden’s similar accusations so recent this will need some deftness on his part.
The exposure of the fault lines, that we can clearly see here whenever Al’s name comes up, will play out in unexpected and unpredictable way as campaigns respond. It is a real tightrope as passions will be inflamed on all sides.
