As the midnight oil burns in Washington — on behalf of over 130,000 community members across the country — I delivered a joint petition calling on the Senate to reject Trump’s NOAA nominee Barry Myers.
This is third time Trump has submitted Myers’ name for nomination much to the frustration of progressive leaders on the Hill. In fact, when the Senate Commerce Committee advanced his nomination back in April, not a single Democrat voted in Myers’ favor.
Who is Myers? Well, he’s the former AccuWeather CEO who’s called for privatization of the National Weather Service, oversaw a work environment where dozens of submitted sexual harassment complaints led to a federal investigation. On top of all of this, his brother Joel Myers continues to run AccuWeather.
Fortunately, I was able to voice 130,000+ community members’ concerns with Myers’ nomination directly to the offices of Ranking Member of the Senate Science Subcommittee Baldwin (D-WI), Sen. Schatz (D-HI) and Sen. Cruz (R-TX), and electronically delivered signatures to the offices of Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Wicker (R-MS), Committee Ranking Member Cantwell (D-WA), Subcommittee Chairman Gardner (R-CO), Sen. Sullivan (R-AK), Sen. Johnson (R-WI), Sen. Scott (R-FL), Sen. Blumenthal (D-CT), and Sen. Peters’ (D-MI).
As Trump continues to announce and submit unqualified nominees mired in conflict of interest with awful track records, we must continue to push back and support elected officials working in the interest of the 99%.
