Instead of waiting for the next round of debates or after, the Sanders campaign has decided to out right smear and lie about the Harris healthcare plan that was just released.
Harris released what in my opinion is a great plan — immediate availability for enrollment into Medicare for those who most need it, and an overall transition plan for the whole thing by 10 years.
ALL services covered including dental and mental health.
Insurance companies can still participate, but their plans must align to strict policy standards, or they’re out.
Kamala also proposes weighting the tax burden of the plan on investment transactions and the highest incomes, rather than the middle class.
I think her plan has a much more realistic view of the fact that 1. A lot of people in America like the private insurance right now, and 2. Hospitals and health systems move very slow, and some sort of to your transition plan is absolutely unfeasible without devastating effects to the healthcare infrastructure of the country.
You can read her plan here: medium.com/...
But, I RESPECT OTHER OPINIONS THAT SINGLE-PAYER IS BEST OR THAT A QUICKER TURN TIME IS FEASIBLE.
Kamala even paid respect to Bernie in her plan, and respectfully stated where and why she goes in a different direction.
Unfortunately, the Sanders campaign hasn’t reciprocated the respect. It went straight to smears and lies:
Smear/Lie 1: The plan ‘isn’t medicare for all’.
But...the plan allows anyone that wants to, to get on Medicare. Did Medicare For All mean YOU WILL BE ON MEDICARE DAMMIT!!!, Sanders campaign??
Smear/Lie 2: ‘Her plan is centered around privatizing Medicare.’
This is literally a lie. Besides ‘centered around’ being a complete smear and misleading statement, Harris’s plan expressly requires that any private insurer participating must adhere to strict policy standards that align with Medicare’s — and no one is required to stay on private insurance unless they want to.
The letter’s reception hasn’t been great outside of the standard Bernie circles...
Really poor behavior from the Sanders campaign that I can’t imagine they’ll see any benefit form outside their base. Hopefully, Bernie will come out and modify the/apologize for the release.
