Ann marching for environmental justice in Richmond
It’s official! The Washington Post has just reported that Tea Partier Trumpista Nick Freitas will NOT appear on the ballot for the November 5, 2019 election. Freitas has said that he’ll mount a write-in campaign. True that the district is red, but write-ins are seldom — even rarely — successful. In an off-off year, voter turnout will be low and conservatives will be fed-up with the Freitas Fracas. Add to that the growing disgust of Virginia conservatives with Trump and all who, like Freitas, have aligned themselves with him.

Virginia Democrats are fighting to flip both houses this November. This unforced error on Freitas’s part could bring us that much closer. Write-in campaigns are expensive. Freitas has a whopping $4,211 in the coffers. The VA Republican Party may just decide it doesn’t want to spend the extra hundreds of thousands on a doofus when they have so many other seats to defend — seats were the candidates filed their bloody paperwork!
In 2017, with the help of Daily Kos readers, we flipped 15 seats in the General Assembly — most of them held for decades by Republicans. That message helped energize Democrats for the 2018 Tsunami. What do you say? Ready to roll?
