The most important issue in the 2020 election—which Democrat can beat Trump? The answer is Kamala Harris.
I understand and appreciate the love for other Democrats. Some of that love stems from fervent belief in having progressive policies that Democratic voters love. Some of that is respect and admiration for qualities like intelligence, eloquence and a calm and mature demeanor. All those policies and all those qualities are desirable, honorable and badly needed in the candidate who will become the 46th President of the United States.
Yet all of that will be meaningless if the nominee we select cannot beat Donald Trump in an election.
It is a more than fair and accurate statement to say the overwhelming majority of our candidates all have policy proposals that are not only better than, but also a gargantuan improvement over Trump and the GOP’s. I think all of the Democrats running are kinder, wiser, smarter and more empathetic than Trump—a man who arguably possesses none of those qualities at all.
But given all the sickening outcomes of the inhumane actions taken by Trump and the GOP in the past 2 ½ years, progressive policies and personality traits run a distant second to the skills required for what will all but certainly be a scorched earth campaign for winning the White House.
If our nominee cannot defeat Trump? Nothing else matters.
Senator Harris is the only candidate that has cornered and exposed the corrupt actions of multiple Trump appointees on camera every year for the past 3 years and a 16 year record of never losing an election who has proven she can prosecute Donald Trump on the campaign trail and evict him from the White House.
More than a few voters in Iowa are now seeing Kamala’s abilities to confront, cross-examine and prosecute the case against Trump, too.
Kamala Harris sending Trump ‘back to his corner’ — that’s a debate many Iowa Democrats want to see
At rallies, she generally drew bigger cheers for her calls for gun control and for the image she’s cultivated of herself as a Democratic avenger, telling rally-goers at several stops that she wants to “prosecute the case against four more years of Donald Trump.”
Many here are enamored with the idea of seeing her debate Trump.
“In a debate situation, she’ll call him to come to Jesus,” said Lindey Krug, a 42-year-old high school teacher from Fort Dodge, who is considering Harris along with Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Mayor Pete Buttigieg of South Bend, Ind.
“Trump would have more trouble with her,” said David File, a 68-year-old retiree from Mount Pleasant, who said he was still considering five or six candidates. “Trump is accountable to no one. I think he is just so used to bullying people and making it up as he goes that she will be able to face-to-face pin him down.”
What the voters in Iowa observed about Senator Harris 2 weekends ago is the #1 reason to support her for President of the United States. No other candidate has her charisma, her larger-than-life stage presence, her infectious laugh, her Obama-esque warmth and sparkling rapport with kids and adults coupled with a legal eagle’s courtroom-honed expertise at questioning an opponent and catching them in their own lies with their own testimony.
And she does not take crap from anyone. Even when the Republicans try to shut her down, she stands her ground and maintains her command and self-control in the situation.
Trump isn’t afraid to call the other candidates names, but he has so far refused to assign her a derisive nickname.
Here are all the insulting nicknames Trump has used for 2020 Democratic candidates
- Sleepy Joe
- Pocahontas
- Crazy Bernie
- Alfred E. Newman
- Snowwoman Klobuchar
- Lightweight Gillibrand
Notice who among the Top 5 leading candidates he’s avoided giving an official nickname to? FYI, Trump Administration officials have been promising he’ll come up with one for Kamala since the very first Democratic debate in June. And yet for some strange reason, it’s 7 months since she launched her campaign and he still fails to deliver on that promise to call her a name and try to bring her down to his level.
I don’t know if Trump is afraid of her, but I do think Senator Harris worries him. A lot.
Voters in Iowa can see why as well.
Ken Madden, 70, a retired farmer who lives outside Mount Pleasant, said he couldn’t wait for Harris to tell Trump “to go back to his corner, something Hillary [Clinton] didn’t do.”
“She’s tough, she’s not a starry-eyed liberal — look at her background as a prosecutor,” Madden said. “It appeals to someone like me.”
No plans for legislation will matter if you don’t have a strategy to first pin Trump down and beat him fair and square and verbally best him in rhetorical battle.
Alex Wiese, a 29-year-old Iowa City teacher, said he liked Harris but “she comes off slightly like that practiced politician.” He wanted to see a “breakout moment of passion.” After hearing her stump speech at the fair, he was more interested: “It’s great to have a fighter when you’re going after a bully.”
We need an accomplished fighter with an immaculate record of winning election (San Francisco D.A., 2003) after election (re-elected 2007) after election (CA Attorney General 2010) after election (re-elected 2014) after election (CA Senator, 2016).
“People have said she’s cold on TV,” but it’s not true, Iran Carlos, a 21-year-old Buena Vista University student, said after meeting the senator.
Carlos — a DACA recipient whose parents brought her from Mexico into the U.S. illegally when she was 9 months old — had gotten an up-close look at the charisma Harris often displays in one-on-one encounters with voters.
The 2020 election is not about having the best plans because those won’t matter if we don’t have a fighter with the warmth, the smile, the joy and the passion to beat Trump on the campaign trail. That trail runs through rallies. It runs through debates. And it runs on television, cable news, local news and in online videos that voters will view millions of times on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.
Before any change in legislation can occur, we have to win this election decisively. Our nominee in 2020 cannot fight with just the brains in their head or the papers of bills they’ve written (which will likely never get past Mitch McConnell and the GOP if they hold the Senate). We need a warrior who will prosecute Trump every day online and on TV throughout this nation and around the globe. The only candidate with the killer instinct a successful campaign is going to need to thoroughly deflate and defeat Donald Trump is Kamala Harris.
Case closed.

Group Guidelines
The Kamala2020 community group has been created to positively support Senator Kamala Harris, and not to engage in negativity towards other Democrats running in the 2020 primaries.
All should be made to feel welcomed here. What’s not welcomed here is petty bickering over any of our preferred candidates, or personal attacks on fellow Democrats. We’re not responsible for the actions of others who may offend, insult or attempt to sow discord and disunity — that’s on them.
What we are responsible for are our own words and actions — that’s 100% on us.
I’d like to ask all group members, as well as those dropping by who support or are interested in Kamala’s bid for the nomination, that we not respond to negativity from other campaign’s supporters with even more negativity. Let’s do better than our best and respond with respect, humor or try to hold our peace. Recipes and cat pics work, too 😃
Doing no harm costs us nothing... pie-fights will cost us everything.
