Friday Night Lights For Liberty
I went to the Lights For Liberty protest in Detroit on July 12. About 1,500 people attended, and I saw many members of my neighborhood there. I needed to do something more, so I decided to put out a candle on the following Friday, and I shared it on NextDoor.com. This has become a continuing effort, although I will be using a light in a window rather than a candle on my front porch.
I’ll put a light in my window every Friday at sundown for an hour. About 25 of my neighbors have joined me so far, based on comments on NextDoor.com and other conversations. If you want to use my social-media reminder, please feel free:
Friday Night Lights For Liberty
Reminder: Friday Night Lights For Liberty: A light in our windows at about 9:30 p.m.tonight
We utterly reject our government's concentration camps for immigrants. The lights in our windows at sundown on Fridays symbolize our repudiation. Children separated from parents? No. Jails for children? No. Concentration camps? No.
We uplift the plight of the most vulnerable in our communities. We’ll put a light in our window every Friday after sundown for an hour. This mini-protest is close, quick, easy, and inexpensive. About 25 neighbors have joined in so far, based on comments on Nextdoor.com and other conversations.
Please feel free to share, copy, and/or edit this text to broadcast to your social media. If you are participating, please us know! In other words, I welcome your Reply. As you may know, the more comments an item has on Nextdoor.com, the closer that item rises to the top, spreading the word.

As a reminder, two phrases from Merriam-Webster online:
••• concentration camp •••
a place where large numbers of people (such as prisoners of war, political prisoners, refugees, or the members of an ethnic or religious minority) are detained or confined under armed guards.
••• death camp •••
a concentration camp in which large numbers of prisoners are systematically killed.
Please let's treat each other civilly. If you don't want to participate in this protest, there is no requirement that you comment at all. Before commenting here, I ask you to remember three important questions: Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?
Power with, not power over,
Notes
That reminder will evolve, I’m sure. You are free to share it, copy it, or edit it if you like. This mini protest has a very low threshold: No travel, little time, little expense.
Power with, not power over
