Morning Open Thread is a daily, copyrighted post, from a host of editors and guest writers. We support our community, invite and share ideas, and encourage thoughtful, respectful dialogue in an open forum. This series was conceived as a haven where folks can drop in to share conversation, ideas, weather reports, and music. Feel free to leave a note, comment, picture, or tune. As always the diarist gets to sleep in, and may show up long after the post is published. Or not. So you know, it's a feature, not a bug.
We have been asked, “Why the copyright notice.”
The purpose of this notice is to protect the intellectual property of the diarist/writer. Said property includes writings, original ideas, photographs, and images by the diary author, who retains ownership of his/her own material and ideas. This notice does not affect commenters in the least, because everyone owns their own material.
Pull up a chair, get your cup of tea, coffee, or other favorite morning beverage and join us for a neighborly start to the day ahead.
For those who have been keeping track, you know I had surgery last Monday for a melanoma on my face. For those who did not know, I wasn’t expecting this and have not said much until now.
The phone call from the clinic telling me the biopsy came back from the lab telling me it was malignant swept my legs from under me.
I don’t remember a single thing the clinic nurse said after she uttered the word, “Malignant.”
The surgeon was kind and careful. However, two hours after the surgery I was gushing blood from the surgery site. I had to go back and get it repacked. That was not fun and I don’t want an encore.
I won’t know the results of the latest lab test for another day or two.
I have dodged bullets before, but this one got my full, undivided, attention.
Don’t have much to say this morning. I will let the music speak for me.
We have two options, medically and emotionally: give up or fight like hell.

Today we fight. Tomorrow we fight. The day after, we fight. And if this disease plans on whipping us, it better bring a lunch, 'cause it's gonna have a long day doing it.

Cancer didn't bring me to my knees, it brought me to my feet.

I have decided to hell with reconstructive surgery. I will have a scar. It will be a reminder to fight. I already have two great role models for that.
Scars are tattoos with better stories.

Besides, I have one hell of a supporter and companion. She knows the way. She inspires me, and I love her. These are for my Sockpuppet.
