Let mestart by saying, Joe Biden isn’t even in my top three choices of Democratic candidates for president. With that out of the way, here’s why I think it’s becoming more certain he will be our nominee.
Witness Biden’s response to Donald Trump’s unhinged handling of China’s retaliation against his trade war.
Joe Biden, the leading Democratic contender for president in 2020, said on the campaign trail Friday that the president is "now feeling the pressure of an economy teetering on a recession and he's not handling it very well."
"His trade war with China is blowing up in his face," he said. "I think it's only going to make him more erratic."
When Biden says, "I think it's only going to make him more erratic,” he knows this is what’s troubling the American voter—and he’s offering them a stark choice. Four more year of chaos, lies, corruption, lawlessness, or the experience of eight years as vice president in a successful administration.
We all know Biden is right here. Trump will become more unhinged. Trump won’t wake up one day with an epiphany that he needs to change his behavior. He will get much worse, and the worse he gets, the better the chances Biden wins the nomination and presidency.
I know Biden has a propensity for gaffes. I don’t think this will matter to voters, as witnessed by his continued frontrunner status in the polls. I also know Biden isn’t the change some on the left want, but to many Democratic voters, he represents a time of stability, experience, and a time there wasn’t daily drama in the White House. We should not ignore or downplay that voters could believe a steady hand may very well be needed to repair the massive damage Trump leaves us.
In closing, this is just my personal take of where we are now in the process. If Joe Biden should become our nominee—and nothing is ever guaranteed in politics—I will enthusiastically work my heart out for him.
I understand and respect the argument from some that a Biden nomination will depress turnout. My reply to that is this: If any voter—and that Is any demographic or age group of voter—can’t get excited enough to remove Trump, then we are in a worse place in our politics then I could have ever imagined.
Regardless of who our nominee is—Trump needs to be gone. There is no debating that point. The thought of four more years should absolutely terrify and motivate voters. This thought alone is what drives me these days to defeat Trump in 2020.
