Maybe I saw a different Democratic Debate 2 in Detroit than others. I saw an old, out-of-touch Joe Biden repeatedly stumble and show everyone that Trump would have nothing to fear if he were the nominee (maybe that’s why Trump has intentionally misled the nation by calling the 76-year-old, his “strongest, possible opponent.” He’s actually weaker than weak and older than dirt.
On stage, he looked lost and opening lines of “Take It Easy on Me, Kid” to Kamala Harris just intensified most people’s feelings that he is: out of touch, and believes he is entitled to the nomination (where have we heard that before?). Then in repeated answers to questions he stumbled. Not once but twice he called Sen. Booker, “Mr. President” (this after playfully grabbing Booker on the forearm showing again he’s the tweaker-in-chief). He got all mixed up on how many years Trump has served in office and can serve in office. To top it all off, in his very short closing speech, in which the old man looked dead tired, he got all mixed up and said, go to “Joe30330” whatever that means. No one, especially Biden, seemed to know.
This is a commanding performance, something the neo-liberal press actually gushed over? Just for fun I was following comments by the Politico group (tied in to the neo-liberal Washington Post) and their editor kept his fellow commentators in line by demanding to know, “How’s Joe Doing”? every few minutes. If they didn’t agree with him that Joe was performing well, they didn’t get much coverage. Well, sorry to spell it out to the traditional media but Joe looked like a 76 year-old who was about to be committed to an old folk’s home rather than a dynamic leader of the United States. If he’s the best we have, the country is in deep trouble.
P.S. On the positive side, I liked J. Castro (intelligent, thoughtful) , A. Yang (very good in front of the camera, pleasantly charismatic and a breath of fresh air), and even the noticeably ambitious Sen. C. Booker who took it to “Jolted” Joe.
