When I read Beto O’Rourke’s reply to a question by a reporter if he thought Trump could do anything to make things better now, he passionately questioned how the press is reporting on this “president”. I call this a real ‘do your damn job’ moment.
O’Rourke’s response to the reporter’s question is raw emotion and spot on. Really—what else can be said to the press at this point? We are beyond being cordial to the press to prod them to do their f*cking jobs.
It’s been three long and excruciating years the press has reported on Trump’s lies, hate, racism and outreach to white nationalists. This is Trumpism and the press is asking a presidential candidate how Trump can make things better? WTF? Inaction by the press to seriously confront the root cause is the real story here.
The late great Edward R. Murrow unabashedly reported on Joseph McCarthy and McCarthyism. Today’s journalists need to do the same with Trumpism. I feel Beto O’Rourke’s frustration here to my core. This is how I feel about the press and this is another episode that confirms they are failing miserably.
