Republican Amanda Chase (VA-SD11) continues to get further and further detached from reality in her response to this week’s mass shootings. First, she suggested that the El Paso shooting a was a result of “gun-free zones” and could have been prevented if only more people were grocery shopping with their guns; a bizarrely inaccurate claim given that Texas is an open carry state.
Then on a local radio show today she suggested that guns were no more dangerous than knives: “You can use any weapon. Car. A knife. Something that happens that causes people snap. I don’t have all the answers. “
Even the conservative local radio host John Fredericks pointed out that a “knife was not going to kill 9 people and wound 20 in 60 seconds. “
Then Chase doubled down on her claim that the solution was more guns: “First step is end the gun free zones. 85% is what I’m seeing. Massacres are occurring in gun free zones” or if a business insists on being gun-free she insists “it is up to the business to pay for armed guards to protect citizens.”
Chase is also the senator who said “It’s those who are naive and unprepared that end up raped”; the one who also said “I Call My Revolver My Little Equal Rights Amendment”; the one who called Capitol police partisan liars; the one who praised “Make Bang Bang” Gun Guy’s “great group who believe in our constitution and rights as Americans.”and the one who claimed that “The ERA Amendment is nothing more than a ploy by the left to eliminate gender altogether.” She also supports Conversion Therapy and is adamantly anti-choice.
